You Want Your Web Business To Succeed? Than Stop Being A Perfectionist!

Posted on 21. Aug, 2009 by John Paul Grant in Internet Business

I recently read a blog post on Quick Sprout, by Neil Patel titled 8 Ways to Improve Your Web-Based Business .. the post made many good points, but their was one inparticular that really struck a cord with me and that was …

Perfection Doesn’t Exist

Now the reason this caught my attention was because I have seen so many of my previous and existing clients worring way too much about the design aspect of the site, when they could have moved on to the more important money making tasks a long time ago! I say this, in hope of knocking some sense into people (plus I felt like having a bit of a rant).

Now this may seem strange coming from a company that does web design, but your website does not have to start perfect! Infact your site will never be perfect! Too many people try to get perfect before even starting to sell / market the business!

As Neil points out in his post, many hugely successful websites have had very simplistic looks. In fact often a minimalistic design can improve a websites conversion rates.

I myself was guilty of this when I started eVenture. I spent months and months worrying about every minor little detail of the site and would tell myself “I just have to get the site perfect, than it will be easy to sell” … well I was completely wrong! Those additional months I spent really made no difference to the end users, in fact I could have knocked up a site in a few hours and they would not have cared less!

If there is one thing to remember from this rant, it is this …

Visitors do not care about your site as much as you do

A website is something that should be continually improved over time anyway. You should never be thinking your website is complete, because it can always be improved. So please learn from my mistakes and start worrying about the more important aspects of business …

Like sales and profit!
