Google appear to be testing their SERP’s (Search Engine Results Page’s) by adding a breadcrumb to each result.

For those of you that do not know what a breadcrumb is, it refers to a hierachical structure of a website which is used to allow visitors to navigate and locate their current position within the website.

You can see that this site uses breadcrumb above.

Many bloggers have noticed this sporadically occuring with Rob Hammond providing the image below:

Both Google & Bing have continuously mentioned that site architecture plays a crucial role in the a websites rankings. This looks to be further proof of this and will be interesting to see if this is implemented into the majority of results.

So Google has just announced a “secret project” they have been working on which has been dubbed the “next generation architecture for Google’s search engine. Their appears to be many improvements to the search engine, from crawling, indexing and ranking changes to general speed enhancements.

Unlike days past, Google are not simply implementing these changes into their existing algorithm, but rather are providing a developer preview version for webmasters, business owners and SEO professionals to freely test.

I have not been able to have a good play with this yet, but from what I have seen speed is definitely noticeable, however it could easily be a lot faster because of the lack of users using it???

Anyway I encourage everyone to go check it out now, and try to understand the differences between the old and the new. Like always any move Google makes could have a huge impact on your business, so best to be prepared!
